Lending Services

All registered members have borrowing privilege in the Library and the maximum period of loan for books is 15 days for all borrowers. Books on loan may be renewed for another 15 days if there is no call for them. If an ordinary loan item is not available on the shelf, library users can reserve it.

Reference Services

The Reading Area of the Library can accommodate for fifty readers at a time for the purpose of research and study. At the Reference Desk, Library staff provide assistance to users in identifying library materials and searching information. Staff also instruct users how to use references sources and access to online databases.

Free WI-FI

The MGI Library is a free Wi-Fi Zone where library users can have free access to the Internet for research purposes via Wi-Fi enabled devices, such as smartphones, tablets, iPads or laptops.

Photocopying Services

The MGI Library offers photocopying services at nominal cost, within the bound of the Copyright Act. Pricing for black and white photocopying is as follows:

A4 size single side                -           Rs.1.00 per copy

A4 size recto and verso       -           Rs.2.00 per sheet

A3 size single side                -           Rs.2.00 per copy

A3 size recto and verso       -           Rs.4.00 per sheet

Printing Services

The MGI Library provides black and white printing service (A4 Size) for the students and registered library users. The Printing fees are as follows:

Mediatheque

Since 2017, the Library has set up a Mediatheque Space where users can have access to audiovisual and digital contents on different types of media (CDs, DVDs, tapes, slides, CD-ROMs, etc). The Mediatheque has equipment for onsite viewing and listening of audiovisual materials and programmes. Computer stations are also available to library users for searching the Internet, consulting e-mails, as well as office work.

Press Cuttings

The Library maintains and provides onsite access to digitalized local press articles on the following main topics : culture, religion, philosophy, language, education, arts, music, history, Indian Immigration, slavery, gender and philosophy.

Indexing Services

With a view to facilitate access to information and save the time of information seekers in retrieving specific information, the MGI Library prepares indexes for selected scholarly journals. 

Compilation of Bibliographies

Bibliographies are invaluable tools for researchers to quickly access the literature of a subject. With a view to support research undertaken by academics and students, the MGI Library provides bibliographical service on demand.  The Library compiles various bibliographies (author, subject, language) which contain materials not only from the MGI Library but also from local and foreign libraries and online databases.

Interlibrary Lending

The MGI Library maintains close cooperative relations with local academic and public libraries and the National Library in order to maximize access to materials for its users. The Library is also a member of the National Union Catalogue of Mauritiana (http://41.76.43.1/uhtbin/cgisirsi/X/NLOM/0/57/49?user_id=nuc), which is a unified catalogue of Mauritiana materials held by twelve major libraries in Mauritius. The National Union Catalogue of Mauritiana is maintained by the National Library of Mauritius.
